The Never Moon

Picture
There sat Luna in the night sky
More than half blanketed in darkness
Many would see just the fragment illuminated by the far away Sun,
But I wished to see beyond
Though just a small part was evident to most,
I knew that there was much more to descry
Some may not think much compelling lies past,
Although I could sense that there was more
To most the bit of you they see is that which burns most brightly;
The truth is that what is hidden from view is more essential
I fear the tracing of your crescent burning behind my eyelids is all I’ll ever have though
Soon you’ll move beyond the horizon;
And I’ll have nothing to remind me of you after this evening
Nothing to remind me of what might have been
