-Reverie Creatures-

The first 15 1/2 years of Moira Mardas' life were similar to that of any girl growing up in the shadow of Seattle. A model student, dedicated athlete, and friendly with everyone she met; she was the sort of kid who you never had to worry about if you were a parent. She got good grades and was captain of her gymnastics team.

But none of that matters now. Her life has come down to survival. As one of the few people left unaffected by the changes, she's in a constant struggle just to get by. The creatures aren't her only worries though; the elements, hunger,  and other
survivors can be just as deadly.

Alone in this world now, she writes to remember. It's the only link she has left to her old way of life; to her family.

This is her story, as viewed through her own eyes.

"These creatures persist..."

One day, the world broke apart. Storms came and changed everything. Not metaphorically; but in a very real sense. Huge billowing clouds of virulent rain and lightening whisked across the Earth. More than half the population died almost instantly. Most of the rest became something...else. Effected by a transmutation never before seen on such scale.

They became something inhuman; something heartless, animalistic, and altogether merciless. Men and women, children, even the animals; none were spared from the alteration of their very being. There was nothing any of them could do to stop it, though some held out longer than others. The same fate beget them all in the end though.

Their bodies became rigid, twisted by the calcification of their skin. What was once soft, penetrable flesh became dense and callous. Their chests grew and their ribs ripped out of their body and formed a contorted, gnarled mess of bone and tendons. The heads and faces became unrecognizable; no longer hominal and were pulled down inside what was now acting as a cage in the chest cavity. Limbs grew to unnatural lengths and became reinforced with muscle; adding an immense height and power never before possessed by the human species.

Those unfortunate enough to not die outright became these new beings; these creatures…monsters. The mind no longer operates with reason or purpose. They lust after nothing more than turmoil, pain, and nourishment. These fallible beasts seemingly care about survival alone; anything else matters not. They feed on what is left of the unaffected; mutilating them with no recourse and without prejudice to affiliation or cause. What were once Doctors, Soldiers, Lawyers, Teachers, and Family now attack their former friends. No one left alive is safe from their ever growing numbers. The actuality of their presence in the world is still something that the living are coming to grips with.
